Belmont High To Use Breathalyzers On Students Suspected Of Drinking At School Events
BELMONT (CBS) -Belmont High administrators may soon be able to perform breathalyzer tests on students if they suspect they are drunk at school events.

Belmont High School Principal Daniel Richards wants the policy put in place after a dozen kids were suspended several years ago for drinking at a school dance.
Since then, the dances have been banned.
Richards says if students want dances, policies like this one are needed.
The School Advisory Council is currently reviewing the language for the handbook and finalizing the breathalyzer policy and protocol.
Richards is hopeful the policy will be approved this week.
A dance is planned for Feb. 9 and the policy will be introduced to parents and students before then.
On Feb. 1, Belmont Police will demonstrate the breathalyzer test during students' lunch period.
Natick, Needham, Reading, Wayland, Westford and Westwood are some of the Massachusetts schools that already have a breathalyzer policy in place.
