Belmont To Welcome '7 Marathons, 7 Days, 7 Continents' Athlete Home With Parade
BELMONT, Mass. (AP) — Belmont is throwing a parade and celebration this week for a local athlete who became the first U.S. woman to run seven marathons in seven days on seven continents.
Organizers say they're planning to welcome Becca Pizzi with the homecoming events on Thursday afternoon.
Pizzi won the women's division of the World Marathon Challenge and finished in third place overall. The event involved running back-to-back 26.2-mile races in Antarctica, Chile, Miami, Spain, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates and Australia.
The 35-year-old day care center operator completed the challenge on Friday in a world-record time.
Pizzi was the first woman across the finish line — and the third overall — in all seven of the marathons.
