Belichick: Pats Loss To Bucs 'Real Hard To Watch'
BOSTON (CBS) - Patriots head coach Bill Belichick did not say much following his team's 30-28 preseason loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday night.
But one thing is clear: Belichick was not a happy camper.
"I think it was pretty obvious tonight that we have a lot of work to do. We have a long way to go; we really didn't perform to the level we need to at any area," Belichick said following the loss. "When you can't score offensively and give up a lot of points on defense, don't make any plays in the kicking game, you don't have a really good chance to win."
"We have a lot of work to do," he echoed. "We're nowhere near where we need to be. Hopefully we can close the gap pretty soon."
While the defense played well at times, but inconsistent, the offense was the real disappointment of the evening. They did not get into any rhythm in the three quarters Tom Brady and the other starters played, and could only muster 14 points in their time on the fie.d
"We didn't do anything offensively except lose yards and turn the ball over. Yeah it was tough to watch any of what we did offensively; it wasn't anything. Throw them the ball, can't make any yards in the running game, third-and-long all day – yeah, it was real hard to watch.
"We obviously got off to a slow start but played a little better in the second half," said Brady, who finished 13-of-20 for 127 yards with a touchdown and interception. "But we really need to string it together for four quarters in order to beat good teams on the road. We certainly have a lot of work to do and an important week coming up this week and we'll try to get better."
