Belichick: 'Been Blown Up A Couple Times' On Sidelines

BOSTON (CBS) - As many fans were digesting their Thanksgiving feast on Thursday night, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin got a little close to the action on a kickoff return.

Tomlin, whose Steelers fell to the Ravens 22-20 on Thursday night, had his back to the play as he watched things unfold on the jumbotron. Ravens returner Jacoby Jones sprinted up the sideline looking for the end zone, but instead appeared to have his path impeded by Tomlin.

No penalty was called on the play, but the play will be reviewed for discipline over the next week according to ESPN. Tomlin said after the game he didn't think he impeded with Jones, and said he always watches returns on the jumbotron for a better perspective of the play.

This all brought back some memories for head coach Bill Belichick, who said on Friday that he's "been blown up a couple of times" when he got a little too close to the field.

"There's one play in particular where I was kind of watching the pass rush off the front and the ball was thrown. I didn't really follow the ball that quickly and all the sudden the guy caught it and was right on top of me," Belichick recalled. "[I] ended up under the Gatorade bench."

Belichick said he remembers the play very well.

"Oh yeah, I sure do," he said. "Looking up at the cups and the Gatorade dripping down."

Belichick said Tomlin's near-interference is a good lesson for the other coaches in the league.

"Obviously if you're watching the ball, it shouldn't be that big of a problem. But if you're trying to watch something else ... Obviously we have to give the officials and the players room to play. Sometimes that just happens where you get guys caught up a little bit on the sideline," said Belichick. "I saw the play last night. I was like, 'Oh my God, yeah.' That could easily happen to any of us."

"It's a good lesson, I have to be careful," he concluded.
