Beers On Toucher & Rich: The Future Of Tim Thomas
The Washington Capitals took the early lead over the Boston Bruins in a big Game Seven, but Tyler Seguin fought in front of the net to poke one by Braden Holtby in the second to tie the game.
The next goal came from Washington's Joel Ward 2:57 into overtime to eliminate the Bruins from the playoffs.
98.5 The Sports Hub's Bruins color analyst and former Bruin, Bob Beers spoke with Toucher & Rich about the Bruins' first round exit, the future of Tim Thomas and last year's long season.
Tim Thomas' contract is up at the end of next year and his no trade clause gets waived come July 1st. What does Beers think the future holds for the 38 year old goalie?
"The overwhelming theory is that it's time for Tuukka to step in. Tim Thomas has been fantastic for this team, he has another year left on his contract so I'm not discounting the fact that he might be here. There's a possibility he might be back."
The Bruins were unable to convert on any one of their three power play opportunities last night and only scored two power play goals all series long. Who is to blame for this poor power play, are we at a point where it's the coaching and not the players?
"There has to be a collective change there in terms of their approach or how they're working things. I need to see more movement, I need to see less for the lack of a better word robotic, I need to see more flow to that power play and it's just not happening right now."
Shawn Thornton sat out Game Six in favor of Jordan Caron. The thought was that if Patrice Bergeron became unable to go Caron could be moved up to fill in. Was this the reason why Thornton sat out Game Seven as well?
"Maybe and maybe because they won in Game Six. I would have liked to have probably seen Shawn Thornton out there just experience wise, winning the Cup twice."
The guys also discussed the factor last year's long run and celebration might have played in this year's season.
