Bedford, NH Doctor Seriously Injured During Armed Home Invasion
BEDFORD, NH (CBS) - A well-known doctor at Elliot Hospital Pain Management Center and his wife were the victims of an armed robbery at their home Sunday evening, according to authorities.
Police responded to a robbery in progress in Bedford, New Hampshire, only to find that both homeowners had been seriously injured.
The residence at 7 Proclamation Court in Bedford was robbed while both homeowners and their child were inside. The victims were identified as 52-year-old Dr. Eduardo Quesada and his wife Sonia.
Both victims were transported to a hospital in Manchester for treatment. Their child was not harmed in the robbery.
Police say Eduardo Quesada sustained life-threatening injuries.
His wife Sonia, who was outside the house when police arrived, was also seriously hurt, police said.
"We have some information concerning a person of interest but right now it's very general and non-specific and so it's not useful at this point," said Bedford Police Chief John Bryfonski.
State Police have been on the scene for two days, dusting for prints, and expanding their forensics search outside the home.
Quesada is an anesthesiologist affiliated with Elliott Health System in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The 10-room home is currently up for sale for close to $1.4 million.
WBZ-TV has learned Dr. Quesada was arrested at the home a year ago after a domestic disturbance call. Those charges were later dropped.
Police won't say if that incident has anything to do with this weekend's violent crime.
"We're not making any connections at this point," said Bryfonski.
Family members of Mr. and Mrs. Quesada declined to talk on camera but say their conditions are improving.
Elliot Hospital released a statement on Dr. Quesada Monday, saying:
"Dr. Eduardo Quesada is an anesthesiologist with Amoskeag Anesthesia and he has worked very closely with Elliot Hospital staff since 2000. We are all very concerned for Dr. Quesada's health and well being and hope that he makes a full recovery from his injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family."
According to the Elliot Hospital Website, Quesada joined the Elliot Hospital Pain Management Center in 2000, after serving as Medical Director of the Pain Clinic at Lakes Region General Hospital.
Quesada holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from The University of Rochester and The University of Chicago, respectively. He graduated from The University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed a surgical internship at Barnes Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis.
He is board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology and is a diplomat of the American Board of Pain Medicine.
