Bedard On Gresh & Zo: Dowling Key To Pat's Defense
Gresh and Zo kicked off their Patriots talk with the Boston Globe's Greg Bedard on the key to Patriots defense. They take a look at the state of the Patriots secondary, the of impact second-year corner/safety Ras-I Dowling, and where Devin McCourty could be fitting in with that secondary.
Bedard has made it known that he feels Dowling will be the key to the Pats defense this year, but why?
"Well, because you're talking about a guys who's a first round talent," said Bedard. "He's in his second year; I mean I know he missed most of his rookie year, but he has had a full offseason now and he's a rare type of athlete."
Staying on the topic of defense, the guys wondered where the Pats will play Devin McCourty.
"I just think that McCourty, with a lot of time to practice it, I think is their best deep free safety," said Bedard. "They like him back there. He's smart; he's not going to give up the big play."
They also discussed second-round draft pick Tavon Wilson and where he fits in. Is he a safety, or is he a linebacker? What are the Patriots going to have him do?
Reports are that left guard Logan Mankins will likely start the season on the PUP list due to a torn ACL suffered in the AFC Championship game. What is Bedard's best guess for the guard's return?
