Bear, Cubs Wander Across Route 40 In Groton

GROTON (CBS) - Some people got quite a thrill in Groton Thursday morning as a bear unexpectedly crossed their paths.

Amy and Nan Quintin told WBZ-TV three black bears - a mother and two large cubs - jumped out of the woods to cross Route 40 near Flavell Road around 10 a.m.

They managed to keep a safe distance and the Quintins took a few pictures of the bears, who then climbed a nearby tree.

A Department of Environmental Protection spokesman told WBZ-TV they're not looking into the sighting, but he added that the bears usually leave the area if they're left alone.
