Thursday, a photographer in the spotter plane for the Shark Hunters took the pictures of a shark 15 to 20 feet from the beach. The Shark Hunters are fishermen who've been tagging sharks off Cape Cod for the state for research. The photos show people running out of the water as the shadow of the shark lurks close by.
"When the boat came near , they got a little nervous," says Will Osier, who took the pictures. The Shark Hunters harpooned a tag on the great white from their boat.
"I was watching ripples and I knew something was in the water, but I couldn't really tell what it was," says Betty Snell, who was on the beach watching. "I would not go in that water, no."
A greeter at the parking lot entrance warns people not to go swimming through Monday, which is normally a busy holiday weekend at the beach.
East facing beaches in Chatham are also closed to swimming because of shark sightings.
