BC AD DeFilippo Not Interested In Tennessee Job
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Boston College athletics director Gene DeFilippo says he loves Tennessee but is not interested in becoming the Volunteers' next AD.
"While I am a Tennessee graduate (Master's Degree) and love UT and Knoxville, my heart is here at Boston College. I am very fortunate to have the only job I want. Anne and I will remain at BC for many years to come," DeFilippo said in a release.
DeFilippo earned his master's degree from Tennessee but says his heart is at Boston College, where he wishes to remain for a long time.
Mike Hamilton announced Tuesday that he would step down as athletics director by the end of June. Hamilton was under pressure after a 26-month NCAA investigation and multiple coaching turnovers.
Two days later, Tennessee announced it would merge its men's and women's sports into one athletics department, and longtime women's AD Joan Cronan would serve as interim AD. After a replacement is hired, Cronan will serve as women's AD for one more year before moving to an advisory role.
