Malden Man Charged In 2014 Murder Of Dorchester Barber Shop Owner
BOSTON (CBS) – Nine months after the murder of a barber shop owner in Dorchester, a suspect was formally charged Monday.
Dominic Shiner, 33, of Malden, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court on a first-degree murder charge in the stabbing death of Sean Dwyer.
Dwyer, 29, was found dead with a stab wound in his chest near his Adams Street shop on December 12.
There had been no arrests in the murder until Sunday when Shiner was taken into custody after a six-month grand jury investigation.
At his arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court Monday, prosecutor Julie Higgins said Shiner was at Dwyer's shop asking for money two days before the stabbing. He returned on the evening of December 12 and killed Dwyer, according to Higgins.
The prosecutor said Shiner later told a friend he had done "something stupid" and if he "watched the news" he would know what happened.
Shiner was ordered held without bail. He's due back in court October 15.
Dwyer's mother, Cheryl Conley, told WBZ-TV her son dreamed of having his own barber shop.
"He was just coming into his own, and then this happens," she said.
"Waking up every day knowing that your child was taken by the hand of another so violently, there are no words to express it."
