Bar Fight Linked To Deadly Hit-And-Run In Leominster
LEOMINSTER (CBS) – Police are looking for a driver of a dark-colored Jeep Commando who sped away from a deadly hit-and-run crash early Friday morning outside a Leominster bar, law enforcement officials said.
Investigators say the victim, David Szafarowicz, 33, of 2 Thayer Pond Road, North Oxford, had been involved in a fight inside of Captain's Lounge on Main Street. As he was leaving the bar, one of the combatants in the fight ran him over and drove off, officials said.
Szafarowicz was pronounced dead in the street in front of the Captain's Lounge. He was struck at about 1 a.m. by the SUV after a fight involving several patrons inside the bar, according to a prepared statement from Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
No arrests have been made.
A witness told WBZ NewsRadio that the fight was sparked when two women were arguing then their boyfriends started fighting.
The state Chief Medical Examiner's Office is assisting in the investigation. Anyone with information about the Jeep or its driver are asked to contact state police detectives assigned to the district attorney's office at 508-832-9124.
