Baker, Coakley Make Early Campaign Stops
LOWELL, Mass. (CBS/AP) — Republican gubernatorial hopeful Charlie Baker is planning to make his first campaign stop since announcing his candidacy two weeks ago.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope reports
Coakley, Baker, Hit Campaign Trail
Baker said he would tour UMass-Lowell's Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center on Wednesday morning.
Baker's decision to hit the campaign trail follows Attorney General Martha Coakley's announcement on Monday that she's also launching a campaign for governor.
Coakley told WBZ NewsRadio 1030, jobs are on the top of her list.
"I think we need to do a better job with everyone to see what the burdens are on businesses,"she said.
On Wednesday, the Democratic hopeful is planning to complete the last day of a three-day tour of the state with campaign stops in Lowell, Lawrence, Newburyport, Gloucester and Salem.
The two could cross paths. Coakley's first stop Wednesday morning is also in Lowell at the Owl Diner.
There are at least four other Democrats in the running for governor. Baker is the only Republican candidate.
In an interview with WBZ Nightside With Dan Rea, Baker said he's glad the so-called "tech-tax" has been rolled back.
"Everybody kind of woke up and said 'oh my gosh, what have we done?'" Baker told Rea.
Gov. Deval Patrick has said he won't seek re-election next year.
