Baker, Coakley Hunt For Votes As Election Approaches

BOSTON (CBS/AP) — Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican Charlie Baker are on the hunt for votes this weekend as the race for Massachusetts governor enters its final week of campaigning before the Nov. 4 election.

On Saturday Coakley met up with Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and union officials in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston for an hour-long campaign walk. Coakley then participated in a gubernatorial forum and attended a Boston house party before ending the day in Lowell at a campaign event with Gov. Deval Patrick.

"We always knew it was going to be a close race," Coakley said. "We feel really good."

The latest polls have shown Baker running a few points ahead of Coakley, but the attorney general brushed them off.

"I've done this before, we don't really pay attention to polls," she said. "And frankly, we think those polls are inaccurate."

Baker attended the same gubernatorial forum hosted by the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations.

"We were once 15 points behind," Baker said. "We've been very pleased with the response we got from voters."

Baker plans to spend Sunday in Boston, stopping by a restaurant in the Mattapan neighborhood before visiting a Halloween event in South Boston and attending another gubernatorial forum.
