Backyard Castle Helps NH Boy Battle Rare Disease
EPPING, NH (CBS) - When builder Scott Tarbell was tasked with bringing a 12-year-old's dream to life, a three-story backyard castle was the result.
"You know what, we get so much enjoyment out of doing this it's not even funny," says the builder.
A castle fit for any king. In this case, fit for David Morasco.
"It's totally way beyond my expectations," says David.
WBZ-TV's Lauren Leamanczyk reports
David has a rare but aggressive tumor in his arm. After five surgeries he's now in his second round of chemotherapy.
He needed something to give him hope, and that's where the Make-A-Wish Foundation stepped in.
"We put our heart and soul into all our wishes, but this one is a little extra special for us," says Julie Baron of Make-A-Wish.
The castle is inspired by David's drawings. But the builders put little surprises in every nook and cranny.
David's fortress is covered in a tarp right now. So he can't see it until the big reveal. But that hasn't stopped him from plotting his first battle.
"We'll have archers on the towers and our foot soldiers will come out later through the drawbridge," says David.
Even grown ups are giddy.
David's mother Kristin says, "He'd have days he didn't feel well and he'd come down here to see the progress and he'd walk back up to the house with a smile just ear to ear."
And in making David smile, this castle is fulfilling his mother's wish too.
