Authorities ID Man Fatally Shot By Beverly Police Officer

BEVERLY (CBS) — The Essex County District Attorney's Office has identified Christopher Whitmarsh, 49, of Hamilton, as the man fatally shot by a Beverly police officer.

Police received a call about a disturbance at a Balch Street home around 3 p.m. on Saturday. When officers arrived on scene, they found Whitmarsh ramming his car into another with his wife and friend inside.

Investigators say he backed into two police cruisers. An officer shot Whitmarsh in the shoulder, and he later died at the hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
