2 Dead, 3 Hurt In Two-Car Crash On I-95 In Attleboro
ATTLEBORO (CBS) – Two people were killed and three others hurt in a crash on Interstate 95 in Attleboro early Thursday morning.
Massachusetts State Police say a man driving a Kia Soul was speeding on 95 south around 1:25 a.m. when he lost control of the car and crashed into the back of a Hyundai GST near exit 3.
The Kia driver, Sean St. Louis, 28, of Providence, was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where he died.
Passengers in the backseat of the Hyundai were trapped in the wreckage. Maryori Conde, a 23-year-old woman from Los Angeles, was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital where she died.
Three other men in the Hyundai, a 23-year-old from Berwyn, Illinois, a 23-year-old from Providence, and a 27-year-old from Daly City, California, were also taken to hospitals with injuries. One of the three victims was listed in critical condition late Thursday morning, while the other two were treated for minor injuries.
The victims in the Hyundai were students at Brown University in Providence, the school confirmed.
According to the statement Conde earned her bachelor's degree in ethnic studies from Brown in 2018 and was a student in the university's master of arts in teaching program. She hoped to become a high school history teacher to predominantly serve low-income, first-generation students of color. As an undergraduate, she co-founded Latinx House, the Latinx Conference and the Central American United Student Association.
Two of the Brown students received minor injuries from the crash and have been released from the hospital. One student injured in the crash remains hospitalized.
The wreckage was scattered across the southbound side of the highway, which was shut down for about three hours for the cleanup and investigation.
