Painter Turns Fenway Moments Into Art
BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston sports artist Mark Waitkus says with each stroke of his brush he has the chance to paint Red Sox history.
"Every time I look at this ballpark, I think it's the soul of baseball. It's the heart of baseball," Waitkus said.
Waitkus started painting for the Red Sox back in 2002.
"I want to capture the moment and excitement and it's almost like you are an historian accept for me it's not on paper but with my artwork," Waitkus said.
His artwork is now in many of the suites and offices inside Fenway Park. Waitkus goes to the games with his digital camera and captures as many pictures as possible and then decides which ones he wants to paint.
For this year's World Series Waitkus says he plans to create six different paintings.
"A lot of fans who come here watch the game, but for me it's a visual and to be able to paint it. Once the World Series is over my artwork becomes the item and memories that people want," Waitkus said.
Waitkus has his own website for people to buy his artwork.
"To me this is heaven. I couldn't think of a better place to have my artwork. I am so fortunate," Waitkus said.
