Arsonist On Cape Cod?

YARMOUTH (CBS) -- Is an arsonist running loose on Cape Cod, or is the recent string of fires just a coincidence?

Sunday night, a fire destroyed the recently renovated Red Rose Inn in Yarmouth.

Today, state and local investigators were pouring over the rubble, looking for evidence, but haven't yet determined the cause. "Nothing yet," said Chief Mickey Walker. "There's a substantial amount of rubble. We know where it started, but we haven't pieced it all together yet."

WBZ-TV's Bill Shields reports.

On December 2, in Sandwich, a $500,000 house that was still under construction was torched.

Investigators are fairly sure the fire was intentionally set. Chief George Russell says, "someone intentionally set it, there were no natural causes. Even though it was under construction, the house was tight, and locked up."

A week earlier in Marstons Mills, someone broke into an unoccupied summer house, went into the basement, and opened up a propane tank. Then, they lit a candle upstairs, but the propane never ignited.

Still, neighbors who live near the Sandwich house that burned are nervous, "Yea, you never know," says Bob Rogerson, "it makes you kind of leery."
