Great-Grandmother Asks Why After Assault Arrest
LYNN (CBS) - A thick bandage still rings her head and her face is swollen and black and blue, but 89-year-old Geneva Sozanski of Lynn is all smiles.
Her kitchen counters are lined with flower arrangements.
Some from friends, some from strangers.
"I can't thank the people enough for being so kind to me. I'm very fortunate", Sozanski told me tonight.
She's lived in this neighborhood for nearly 60 years and has never had any trouble. Monday a man hit her from behind and stole her purse, leaving her unconscious and bleeding on the sidewalk.
When her story made news on Tuesday, Lynn Police starting getting tips. Thursday afternoon they arrested 30-year-old Nicholas Christian who lives not more than a half-mile from Sozanski.
I asked her what she would say to the man that did this to her. "Why? Why not work, why hurt somebody. I don't understand why he did it. If he's hungry just ask for it. I'm not going to fight someone," Sozanski said.
