Around The NFL And Soccer 6: Stories From Week 2
BOSTON (CBS) - Let's go around the NFL and check out the people and the stories that are making news.
The real Jay Cutler has surfaced in Chicago. After a grace period, where many people thought Jay Cutler had changed his ways, his actions in Thursday night's game against the Green Bay Packers jolted everyone back to reality. If you missed it, Cutler got frustrated with getting sacked and took his frustrations out on left tackle J'Marcus Webb, shoving Webb and yelling at him on national TV for everyone to see.
Well this week, teammates of Cutler's decided to chime in and they are not happy with the quarterback.
"Is it unfair to criticize Jay right now? Shoot, it's unfair for him to be like that toward J'Marcus," cornerback D.J. Moore said Monday via the Chicago Tribune. "In every game in every sport, there's always somebody who has a tough day. For you to come off on the sideline, once you holler at him it makes it seem like (Webb) is the only reason."
Next game, Jay will get sacked and if his attitude doesn't change, you can be sure he will be sacked again.
Such a promising start to the season for the Washington Redskins and then they just got hit with some bad news. Two of their top defensive stars are now out for the season, Brian Orakpo with a torn pectoral and Adam Carriker with a quad tendon tear. The news was tough for Orakpo especially because his 2011 season was cut short with a similar issue. Head Coach Mike Shanahan said losing Orakpo is extremely tough. The Pro Bowl linebacker does everything that a Pro Bowler is supposed to do.
And finally, talk about a little parity: The NFL has 20 teams that are at .500 and that includes the New England Patriots. The 20 teams at 1-1 is an NFL record. Only six teams are 2-0, the fewest number of undefeated squads since the league expanded to 30 teams in 1995. You can either see this as great competition or the watered-down NFL. I like the competition so far.
For everyone out there, we would like to welcome back Soccer 6 to the party and Soccer has had the offseason to get a group of things together, and 6's first ramble is about Michael Strahan and his new gig. I have to be honest here, I was actually caught up in the wash on this and could not believe it when I heard. Michael is the new co-host of Live With Kelly Ripa. Yes, not Anderson Cooper, not Josh Groban, not Kermit the Frog. All of those would have been better choices but Michael Strahan is the man. Soccer says Michael is great, hilarious and very entertaining. Folks, Kermit the Frog would have been my choice.
Strahan is still doing his NFL gig on Sundays. I will give him this, he's a gamer. I think it's strange though when little Kelly and large Mike are out there on the set. I feel like I am watching the Jolly Green Giant and the little sprout.
Soccer 6 moves on and this was a good catch. 6 says the NFL is the new face of pizza. Aaron Rodgers is the new face of Pizza Hut, Peyton Manning is the face of Papa John's but there is no new face of Domino's. Who fits the Domino's mold? They promise you can never get too much of a good thing, they are social media friendly and flashy. This job should go to two people who are in need of a tie to football:Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson. You can call Chad's pizza " the Ochocheeso" and T.O. will be "I love me some meat." I think that would go over well and keep those two guys in the game and on TV.
Finally, Soccer talks babies and that is just what the down time has been all about. Tony Romo and his wife welcomed a baby boy in April. Jessica Simpson and ex-NFLer Eric Johnson welcomed a baby girl and Kroy Biermann and Kim Zolciak welcomed a baby boy. Wait a second, I have no idea who that last couple is. So I check with Soccer and 6 says, "They are the stars of The Real House Wives of Atlanta."
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
These people should not be noted. Next thing you know, they will be on Live With Kelly and Mike. I still believe Kermit the Frog would be awesome.
