Around The NFL And Soccer 6: Michael Vick, Dog Owner
BOSTON (CBS) -- Here are some news and notes from around the NFL.
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is once again a dog owner. Vick served 18 months in prison on dogfighting charges and now he says his family has a dog.
This topic came up after a picture surfaced of the inside of Vick's house with a Milk Bones dog treat box in the background. Vick understands that many people will be alarmed but he promises that everything is OK.
"I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family's decision to care for a pet," Vick said in a statement. "As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals. I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God's creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family."
Detroit Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh is in the news again. The defensive tackle was involved in another car accident, though this time it was a small fender bender. There were no injuries and no drugs or alcohol involved. A man nameed Stephen Vines said Suh side-swiped his car and then left the scene.
"What it comes down to is it was an arrogance thing in my eyes," Vines told the Detroit Free Press. "It was just pure arrogance. 'Get out of my way or I'm going to make you move,' and then, 'I'm too good to sit here and wait.'"
Finally, what is going on in Pittsburgh Steeler Nation? The team just lost another tough game, this time to the Titans, and now the word is that the players are questioning themselves.
"We're not strong mentally," veteran linebacker Larry Foote told a Pittsburgh radio station. "We don't look like a championship team right now. Everybody's been knocked down, everybody's had doors shut in their face, everybody's gotten beat."
The Steelers are just facing those middle-of-the-season woes.
Soccer 6 checks in and 6 opens up the column with some fine reporting. Apparently the people who put on the Chicago Marathon ran out of medals. This is hilarious. Imagine training for a marathon and all you want is that medal to show people that you have accomplished that feat and they tell you, "We have no more but here's a handshake."
I would seriously hurt somebody or take a medal off someone else and run some more. You have to give me something. Maybe the pace car. 6 is right. All that work and no medals equals riot.
6 goes on to tell us that there will be a new show on the TV scene. This will be a celebrity diving show. Now already I can see the problems with this. 6 says the show will be based on the Dutch show "Celebrity Splash." Here's the deal: Celebrities in this country just want to be seen in public, not splashing in the water or failing on a dive that could have them end up on a spoof television show. This show will only be good if the contestants are stars above 250 pounds and they called it "Celebrity Belly Flop." That show, I would watch, DVR and when the season was over, I would buy the season DVD to watch again.
Finally, 6 has some good news. For those of you who have been following the president races at Nationals Park, well, Teddy Roosevelt has finally won. These are the mascot races and Teddy was like the Washington Generals against the Harlem Globetrotters. Teddy lost 526 races before getting his first win. Here's the link to the victory. Enjoy.
