Army Veteran From Revere Killed In Theater District
BOSTON (CBS/AP) — Boston police are investigating the fatal weekend shooting of an Army veteran who served as a sniper in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Police say 23-year-old Stephen Perez Jr. of Revere was shot in the back just before 2 a.m. on Saturday in the city's Theater District. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
There have been no arrests.
Family members say Perez was out with a group of friends .
Sources tell WBZ that Perez and his friends were trying to leave, and were in Perez' car, when another vehicle blocked their path. Perez then got into a fight and while he was defending himself, someone shot him in the back.
Family and friends describe Perez as a "good kid' who was attending Bunker Hill Community College and wanted a career in law enforcement.
Perez joined the Army shortly after high school. He did two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. "He wanted to be a police officer," said his aunt Patrice Bordonaro. "He was just the kindest person, he'd help anybody."
