2 Massachusetts Hikers Rescued From New Hampshire Mountain
BENTON, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say they rescued two Massachusetts hikers after a wrong turn off-trail put them on the opposite side of the mountain from the trailhead where they began their hike.
Authorities say they found 43-year-old Aleksey Ilin of Boston and 39-year-old Ludmila Navolodskaya of Arlington, Massachusetts, after hiking more than two miles Saturday night.
The women had reached the summit of the Mount Moosilauke, but took a wrong turn off the trail on the way down.
Officials say their predicament was made worse when they followed blue paint markers on trees that had been made by foresters, but resembled the color used to mark the main trail.
They were led off the mountain at about 9:30 p.m. and given a ride back to their car.
