Another Wet Storm...

Here we go again, another wet Winter storm on the way for most late tonight through tomorrow.  Rain and mixed precip will arrive after midnight and strong east winds will send warmer maritime air inland making things very wet for much of Southern New England.  At the start, there may be just enough cold hanging around in the suburbs N&W of Boston for a quick coating of snow and or sleet but rain will be the big player by the time the morning commute rolls around.  Farther N&W, it will be a slightly different story...cold air at the surface will be blocked in by the departing high pressure to our north...this will lead to a period of sleet and freezing rain after that burst of snow during the morning commute.

Places most susceptible to icing will be valleys and Northern areas of Worcester County, Southern NH and even some spots closer to 495 northwest of Boston.  I'm not looking for major icing to occur with numerous power outages but enough for slippery spots certainly and roads will need to be treated in those areas.  The all snow zone still looks to be way up in Northern New England where 6 to as much as 12 inches will fall in the Whites and Western Maine Mountains.

Watch Todd's forecast

Along the coast wind will be a pretty big issue...gusts as high as 50 mph...and the entire Mass coastline is under a Wind Advisory.  There also may be some minor coastal flooding either side of high tide...1PM.

The second part of the storm will pass through in the morning of Friday.  This will be a coldfront powered by a potent upper level system.  It's not out of the question that a few rumbles of thunder are heard.  Preceding the passage temps will spike close to 50 degrees then following the passage temps will plummet through the 40s and into the 30s by Friday evening on howling west winds.

The temps plunge will continue through the weekend as the winds back to the NW Saturday afternoon.  Highs on Saturday will reach the low 30s but will feel like 20s.  The Pats game will be very cold with single digit windchill at times.  Sunday and Monday will be the coldest of the stretch with daytime highs in the mid 20s and overnight lows in the single digits!
