Another Taste of Spring...

Tomorrow is February 1st and the average high temperature is 37 degrees...the high will be more like 55...that's the average high for April 13th!  Enjoy another taste of Spring.  Despite the lofty temperatures tomorrow, Boston will not see a record high...that's 66 set back in 1989.  The warmfront is draped through Southern New England right now...Boston briefly saw the warm side of the front and touched 47 degrees but has since slipped back with the front settling south again.  This front isn't likely to get through Northern MA until morning so some fog and frost likely in the western and northern suburbs of Boston tonight.

The air will continue to warm thru midday tomorrow until the coldfront sweeps through...that should occur midday with a few passing showers.  Then we see a wind shift from the SW to the W and we will start to mix down that warmth and highs will cruise into the 50s and a few spots south of Boston could even get to 60!

On Thursday, a shortwave at 500mb will spin up low pressure over the Mid-Atlantic bringing some snow to Baltimore, MD but too far south to get us...we stay dry but we will see the cloud canopy overhead.  In the wake of that system, winds will freshen up out of the north, bringing in some much colder air for the end of the week and the upcoming weekend.  Highs will stay in the 30s Friday through Sunday and at first as that wind travels over the milder ocean air, some ocean effect snow showers and flurries will be seen near the coast Thursday night and Friday.

Over the weekend, a southern stream storm will eject out of the Southern Plains loaded with moisture, at the same time, a shortwave dives down from the north to try and catch it and entice it to travel north into New England.  Right now the phasing occurs too late for a hit but we will be monitoring the models closely for any shifts or trends as the air would be cold enough for snow should moisture move north.  Again though, it looks like a miss.
