Another Heatwave?

Yes, that's correct!  We may be heading for heatwave #2 later this week and into the weekend.

Today will be much of the same though.  The culprit for these uniform, unchanging forecasts is a cutoff, upper level low which is becoming vertically stacked. This is the indication that it's preparing to 'fill-in' and lift to the north, which will occur on Thursday.  In the meantime, lots of clouds are blanketing the sky this morning as well as a few raindrops falling in some neighborhoods.  Otherwise, there is the chance of getting more sunshine from 10am-2pm before clouds build into diurnally-driven showers/storms. These will not be widespread and will mainly be contained to southeastern NH and eastern Massachusetts.  West-northwest winds will be blowing from 5-15 mph as high temperatures climb into the 73-78F degree range.  The cooler high temps can be expected for central Mass., Southern NH, and the Vineyard/Nantucket.

Thursday will be partly cloudy to mostly sunny with a slim chance of an afternoon spot storm. In most neighborhoods, the chance is less than 20%.  Highs will rebound into above average territory...lower 80s.

Friday will be even hotter and possibly the beginning of our 2nd heatwave this year. Highs will be near 90F.  It will be a partly cloudy day.  An early morning warm front may spawn a few showers, and a cold front later in the day will pose a threat for spot afternoon and evening storms.

This weekend will be the end of June and the beginning of July.  Saturday will be saturated with sunshine and warmth as highs climb into the lower and middle 90s (80s...Cape/Islands). Sunday will be partly cloudy with with a chance of a few showers and storms, especially from the afternoon into the evening. The GFSx looks more pessimistic for Sunday while the EURO shows more promise for a sunnier day. Looking at these model's track records, I am choosing to side with the EURO for now. This is a tough forecast to time out because the shortwaves will be flowing quickly along the zonal jetstream. We will be fine-tuning as the weekend nears.
