Andover Man Badly Beaten On New York City Street
NEW YORK (CBS) - An Andover man is in critical condition after a brutal attack in New York City over the weekend.
Police say Kevin McCarron, 24, was beaten with a tire iron, baseball bat and blackjack and stomped repeatedly by a gang around 5 a.m. Sunday outside a pizza shop in Greenwich Village.
According to a police report obtained by WBZ-TV, McCarron sustained substantial bleeding, swelling, loss of consciousness, and multiple skull fractures.
The New York Daily News first reported the story and published a short video clip of the attack.
Witnesses say McCarron and his friends got into an altercation with a group of seven men outside Artichoke Pizza.
Sources tell CBS New York, McCarron was with a group of 9 friends, including his brother, when they bumped into the other group of men. Words were exchanged and pushing and fighting began.
McCarron and his brother Patrick were the most seriously injured. There is no word on the extent of Patrick McCarron's injuries.
McCarron is a graduate of Central Catholic High School and Providence College. After college, he worked with troubled kids in Lawrence. He currently works for an IT staffing company in Wakefield.
Sources tell CBS New York a third victim is identified as Issac Ward of Long Island. Ward is said to also be a graduate of Providence College.
Hatem Farsakh, 24, and Sherif Rizk, 22, both of Brooklyn, were arrested on charges of attempted murder, assault and gang assault.
A person answering the phone at the pizza shop told WBZ-TV Wednesday they didn't know anything about the fight.
McCarron is currently hospitalized at New York Hospital.
