And It's Begun...

Judging by the backup on the Mass Pike this evening the holiday rush has begun and weather-wise it's begun without a hitch.  We just had a coldfront slip through with only a few sprinkles along it and the roads stayed dry.  Tomorrow, on the busiest travel day of the year the roads will also be dry but there will be a pretty good wind to contend with.  You'll notice it most on north / south running highways like I-95, I-91 and Route 1 where strong crosswinds will attempt to push the car into another lane.  Some of the bridges on those roads will be an interesting traverse especially the Piscataqua River bridge that runs from Portsmouth, NH to Kittery, ME...gusts up there could reach or slightly exceed 50mph!  The wind  will settle down Wednesday night as high pressure approaches and crests over us on Thanksgiving providing quiet and seasonably cold conditions.  Another front will approach Thursday night with weak warm advection produced showers and areas of rain...temps again are marginal at best for any frozen precip but  some evaporational cooling at the start may produce a few sleet pellets.  Plain old somewhat mild rain we occur Friday morning along the coldfront.  Those showers should by noon and drier and chilly air will work in for the weekend.

Safe travels to all and Happy Thanksgiving.
