An interfaith rally to support Muslims in America
A coalition of Boston-area religious interfaith leaders has held an anti-bigotry rally in support of Muslim Americans.
Nancy Taylor, senior minister of Old South Church, said Tuesday at the Massachusetts Statehouse rally that religious leaders couldn't remain silent against growing anti-Muslim sentiment.
Rabbi Eric Gurvis of Temple Shalom of Newton said the coalition is standing up for religious freedom.
The Boston rally comes as debate has raged nationally over the placement of a planned Islamic cultural center a couple of blocks from Ground Zero in New York City. In addition, an Islamic center under construction in Tennessee recently fell victim to an arson and a small Florida church is vowing to hold a Sept. 11 burning of the Quran, the Muslim holy book.
