Allen Takes Part In Shootaround, Game-Time Decision For Celtics
BOSTON (CBS) - It's been almost a month of "will he or won't he play" with Celtics guard Ray Allen.
The 36-year-old took another baby step closer to returning to the floor for Boston, participating in the Celtics morning shootaround Friday as the team gets set to host the Atlanta Hawks in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series.
There is one more big hurdle for the 36-year veteran to clear though, which is his rigorous and thorough pre-game shooting routine. Past return-attempts have been derailed after Allen's bothersome ankle acted up on the day of games, making Allen a game-time decision (once again) for Friday night.

But Allen participated in Boston's 75-minute practice on Thursday, and taking part in the team's game-day shootaround is a good sign. The Celtics could use his outside shooting, as they are just 3-for-25 from beyond the arc this series. Having Allen come in will immediately stretch the floor, taking some pressure off Kevin Garnett down low.

An optimistic Allen said he felt good prior to practice and was "in a good place" on Thursday. But as the Celtics have learned, there is just no knowing how with Allen and his ankle until just before tip.
Allen has missed the last 11 games for the Celtics with the injury. He will undergo surgery in the offseason to remove bone spurs from the troublesome ankle.
