Police said they were called on Saturday to the Rourke Bridge in Lowell for a car stopped in traffic.

When they got there, police said they found Sean Stanek of Lowell asleep at the wheel, with his chin resting on his chest.

When an officer tried to put the car in park, they said Stanek woke up.

"He hit the gas pedal and took off, with the officer, half the body, still within the motor vehicle. Motor vehicle drove off 20-30 feet. Officer Rivera was able to, finally after 20 to 30 feet, to push himself out of the motor vehicle, rolled onto the pavement, scratching his elbow," said Assistant District Attorney Christina Lucci.

Police then stopped the car and out Stanek in handcuffs after a brief struggle. He was arrested on several charges, including drunk driving.

Officers said Stanek had a cup full of liquor in the car, and a 4-year-old boy unbuckled in the back seat.
