All Things Travel: Rectrix Aviation Continues 10-Year Growth

BOSTON (CBS) – Rectrix Commercial Aviation Services is making a name for itself in New England and beyond.

The company held an open house last Thursday at its new world headquarters at Hanscom Field with 60,000 square feet of maintenance, office and lounge space for its private jet customers.

Next month Rectrix will open a smaller new facility at the Worcester Airport, also operated by MassPort.

Governor Charlie Baker, Congressman Jim McGovern, Amy Corbett, who heads the New England region for the federal administration, and Massport CEO Tom Glynn were on hand for the event.

Rectrix started 10 years ago with a handful of employees and the company has grown to over 200 employees.  It also has bases in Hyannis; Westfield, Massachusetts and Sarasota, Florida. It is the largest general aviation company in the region.

Viewed by over 100 guests at a reception on October 15 in the hanger of Rectrix was a gleaming Learjet 45 XR aircraft that seats nine passengers. The plane has a range of nearly 2,000 miles with a cruising speed of 528 miles per hour.

The company operates seven of its own jets.

If you have a few thousand dollars to spend, want to save time, avoid the TSA lines and be picked up on the tarmac when the jet lands, this is the way to go.

On Friday, MassPort broke ground for a CAT III Instrument Landing System at the Worcester Airport. It will be operational by the end of December 2017 at a cost of $34 million. Massport operates the Worcester Airport and is upgrading its facilities to attract new airline service.

"Worcester Airport is alive and well and Rectrix is a big part of it," said Congressman Jim McGovern.

Rectrix CEO Richard Cawley had an interesting comment to make about the continued growth of the company.

"It's the people," said Cawley. "We pay them $15 an hour to start. They perform or they're gone."

In a top-tier business, service counts for a lot.
