All Things Travel: Record Passenger Growth At Logan
BOSTON (CBS) - Logan Airport's record monthly passenger growth continued in July.
According to figures released by the Massachusetts Port Authority Monday, 2,840,414 total passengers used the airport last month.
That figure was a 7.2 percent increase over the same period last year.
For the first seven months of the year, the airport registered a 7.6 percent increase.
The Boston airport continues to be aided by the low cost carriers JetBlue and Southwest Airlines.
Fare increases at Logan are among the smallest registered by any major market in the country.
Strong gains are also being seen in passenger numbers between Europe and Boston in both business and leisure travel this summer.
International passenger traffic to and from Canada and Europe both show double digit increases to date this year.
If these growth rates continue through the end of the year, Logan could post a record number of passengers totaling around 28 million.
General Aviation, which is private jets flying into Logan Airport, in July grew from 4,732 passengers to 10,228.
That amounted to an increase of over 115 percent, showing the strength of the Boston region for business travelers.
While these figures were being released, corporate travel executives from New England were gathering in Denver for the annual Global Business Travel Association conference.
Next year, that event will be held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
Boston will host the closing reception on Wednesday evening sponsored by the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The CVB will roll out its new marketing theme: "Be A Fan of Boston."
It highlights the success of Boston's sports' teams.
