All Things Travel: Logan Airport Steps Forward
BOSTON (CBS) -- Logan Airport opened its new walkway between Terminals C and E this week, making it much easier for passengers to make their connecting flights.
Six-month Logan numbers, expected to be released next week, will show passengers totaling over 16 million, with international traffic making up about 20 percent to almost three million of the total.
The new walkway, under construction since last year, now allows domestic passengers arriving at the JetBlue terminal to stay behind security as they connect to international flights in Terminal E, easing the traffic flow.
JetBlue is Boston's number-one airline, with over 25 percent of passengers using Logan Airport. They also have flights from Worcester Regional Airport.
Terminal E is now at capacity, and three foreign airlines have moved their departures from E to C near the new connector. Those airlines are Aer Lingus, Emirates, and TAP.
Over the next five years, Massport is expected to virtually rebuild the international terminal, adding more gates and concessions.
With people being advised to arrive at the airport two hours before their flights and with longer waiting times for international connections, this new walkway means passengers will spend more time at the airport concessions.
Recent terror attacks are expected to reduce flights to central Europe over a summer that had been showing gains with the strong U.S. Dollar.
More international flights may be coming to Logan. The major targets for new service are Brazil and India.
Massport is planning an event in the next month to officially open the new connector.
