All Aboard?

Well, things certainly have gotten more interesting since we last spoke...all of a sudden the odds of getting a big snowstorm have gone way up!    The last two runs of the EURO have shown a major storm in our coastal waters with agreement from the GFS and the Canadian as well...leading to a lot of snow, damaging NE winds and coastal flooding.  Before we go further, it must be pointed out that this is not set in stone.  There is and will continue to be waffling among our various models producing numerous solutions.  We have already seen the 18Z GFS push it farther out to sea, so this little dance will continue.   As I said last night, there are so many parcels of energy trying to be resolved when emphasis is put on one it takes away from another leading to a shift.  But, now that we are getting inside of three days out and most of the players in the evolution of this storm are either over North America or about to be, we should begin to get more consistency so these next 4 model run cycles should clarify things and we can get into specifics hopefully for tomorrow night's newscasts.

So as of now, if nothing changes, we know a large storm will blow up off the East Coast...there is a chance that many of us see close to a foot.  There is also a threat for some mixing over SE Mass and the immediate coastline due to a very warm ocean this time of year...in the 40s.  But, this storm may be so strong that the pressure gradient force will dominate and ageostrophic flow could take over leading to more of a NNE direction and not E or NE  limiting significant warm air intrusion along the coastal plain...something to look for during the event...I get ahead of myself!  Regardless of direction, that wind could buffet the coast and with tides getting higher and higher early next week big problems for the coast would be seen.  Of course blowing and drifting would be an issue during and after the event too.

Again, nothing is for certain, but these are the possibilities...buckle up!
