Albert Breer Criticizes College Football Playoff Committee
BOSTON (CBS) - Taking a break from their NFL discussion, Andy Gresh, Scott Zolak and the NFL Network's Albert Breer talked some college football Wednesday afternoon on 98.5 The Sports Hub.
If you follow Breer on Twitter (@AlbertBreer), then you're often subject to his undying love for Ohio State, especially on Saturday afternoons when his Buckeyes are on TV.
His Buckeyes currently sit No. 5 in the latest release of the College Football Playoff Rankings. Short of an epic slip-up from teams 1-4 and an impressive win at home against Wisconsin, Ohio State will likely find themselves out of the running for the nation's top prize.

But it wasn't Ohio State that got Albert Breer all worked up with Gresh & Zo on Wednesday, it was Florida State. A new release of the College Football Playoff Rankings were unveiled last night, and they go as follows:
1. Alabama (11-1)
2. Oregon (11-1)
3. TCU (10-1)
4. Florida State (12-0)

Breer takes issue with the selection committee for putting FSU No. 4.
And while he's resigned to the fact that his Buckeyes are likely sitting this one out, he calls into question the process -- a process which has concluded that an undefeated, defending national champion is not ranked higher than four.
"That is garbage that [Florida State] is fourth. Total, complete garbage," Breer said to start his rant. "They won all of their games this year and all of their games last year. They're fourth? Behind Texas Christian? Seriously?"
With Jameis Winston under center and all of the controversy surrounding him, the Seminoles might be the least-liked team in college football history.
That, coupled with the fact that Florida State hasn't been winning convincingly (narrow wins over Florida, Boston College and Miami), and the Noles find themselves at No. 4, which Breer doesn't think is fair in the least.
"TCU almost lost to Kansas (3-7) two weeks ago!" argued an incredulous Breer. "[FSU] is not a likeable team. But are you telling me that TCU would beat Florida State on a neutral field? Who do you think Alabama or Oregon would rather play? TCU almost lost to West Virginia and they did lose to Baylor!"
Breer has come to realize that this 12-person committee (it was 13, but Archie Manning is on a leave of absence for health reasons), is more interested in the eye test, whereas the BCS formula was a slave to the numbers.
"What's more important now? Is it winning the game or is it looking good? I think there's a clear message from this committee that looking good is more important than winning the game," said Breer.
The more he explained, the more you realize that Breer mostly has a problem with the Horned Frogs.
"Florida State doesn't have a loss. Ask the Seahawks what it's like being a defending champion. TCU hasn't had to deal with that. TCU blew a three touchdown lead against Baylor and isn't paying for that. Florida State has been clutch at every turn, and I guess pulling out those wins isn't as important as [TCU] beating up on a crappy Texas team at the end of November. It doesn't make any sense."
"It doesn't make any sense, which is what makes this weekend all the more compelling," Andy Gresh concluded.
