Agent: Randy Moss To Retire

FOXBORO (CBS) - Former Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss has reportedly decided to retire, his agent told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"After weighing his options and contemplating offers, he's decided to retire," Moss' agent, Joel Segal said Monday.

Cris Carter, a former teammate of Moss, told ESPN that the wide receiver was seeking a multi-year deal. He said that the Patriots, Moss's first choice, offered him a one-year deal and later traded for Chad Ochocinco. The Jets were also interested, but instead opted to sign Plaxico Burress.

MOSS'S CAREER

Moss was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 1998 draft, and became an NFL phenomenon, hauling in 17 touchdowns as the Vikings went 15-1. He finished with at least 1,200 yards receiving his first six years in the NFL, and finished with 10 or more touchdowns in six of his first seven seasons.

After a disappointing 2004 season in Minnesota and a number of off-the-field issues there, he was traded to the Raiders. Despite a 1,000-yard campaign his first year in Oakland, things got worse for the wideout, as he bottomed out with just 553 yards on 43 catches in 2006.

Moss wanted out of Oakland, and Bill Belichick took a chance, trading a fourth round pick to the Raiders for the troubled WR before the 2007 season. It was a good move.

The 34-year-old played parts of four years in New England, developing a tremendous on-field chemistry with QB Tom Brady. In his first year, he caught an NFL-record 23 touchdowns, finishing with 98 catches for 1,493 yards to help the Pats go 16-0 in the regular season.

After two more 1,000-yard seasons in New England, Moss had a short stay for his final year in Foxboro, including a bizarre press conference after the first game of the season to address a number of issues, specifically his contract status with the team. After four games, Moss was traded to the Vikings for a draft pick.

Moss's return to Minnesota was short-lived, and after a 1-3 stint with the Vikings, he was placed on waivers and ultimately claimed by the Titans. He finished his career there, hauling in just six catches for 80 yards as the Titans stumbled to a 1-7 finish.

Moss played 13 seasons overall in his Hall-of-Fame career for the Vikings, Raiders, Patriots and Titans, catching 954 passes for 14,858 yards and 153 touchdowns.
