Adrian Gonzalez, Red Sox Agree To 7-Year, $154 Million Deal
BOSTON (CBS) - A source confirms to WBZ-TV's Dan Roche that the Boston Red Sox and Adrian Gonzalez have reached a 7-year, $154 million contract extension.
The extension begins next season and is for an average annual value (AAV) of $22 million.
There are no option years for Gonzalez or the Red Sox.
He gets a $6 million signing bonus.
Gonzalez will make $6.5 million this season.
The deal was announced now so that the AAV won't apply for this season and the Red Sox then avoid having to pay a bigger luxury tax.
The Red Sox will formally announce the deal Friday afternoon at Fenway Park.
