Adam Oates Elected To Hockey Hall Of Fame
BOSTON (CBS) -- A former Bruins great will soon be forever enshrined among hockey's greatest legends.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Adam Oates was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame, along with Joe Sakic, Pavel Bure and Mats Sundin.
Oates played from 1985-2004 for the Red Wings, Blues, Bruins, Capitals, Flyers, Ducks and Oilers. He was a Bruin from February 1992 until March 1997, scoring 142 goals and registering 417 assists in that time. In his entire career, he had 341 goals and 1,079 assists, putting him 16th in NHL history with 1,420 points. He also ranks 25th all time with 156 postseason points.
Oates' skills remained sharp late in his career, when he led the NHL with 64 assists in the 2001-02 season when he was 39 years old.
Earlier on Tuesday, Oates was named head coach of the Washington Capitals. He had been an assistant coach for New Jersey.
