Adam Jones: Sluggish Bruins Squander Third Period Lead & Fall To Sabres In OT

BOSTON (CBS) - It was the Bruins' first game back from the Olympic break and it sure did look like it.

The lowly Sabres and their worst team in the league hosted the Bruins Wednesday night in Buffalo and were able to edge the B's in overtime by a score of 5-4.

The Bruins were still able to pick up a point in the loss, and despite looking rusty for most of the game they did hold a one goal lead late in the third period until Matt Moulson tied it up - so their effort surely wasn't enough to get it done.

In overtime, an errant pass by Loui Eriksson and a flat-footed Zdeno Chara led to a Matt D'Agostini partial breakaway goal to give the Sabres the win.

Dave Goucher and Bob Beers of the Bruins Radio Network joined Adam Jones afterwards to talk about the disappointing loss.

"It was a tough one for the Bruins to lose tonight because you felt as the game went on that they got better," said Goucher postgame. "There was portions of the game when they really controlled it. After they took the lead on the Lucic goal you really thought this one was going to be in the bag for them. Give Buffalo credit. This is a team that overall is going nowhere fast. They did not go quietly. They tied it and then won it."

Bob Beers told Jones although there were some positives, including how they looked on the power play, there was mostly negative takeaways from the game.

"It was a mixed bag. Guys that had good offensive games had defensive breakdowns. You can go up and down with a number of players in those categories. The goaltending wasn't where it needed to be in this game. Maybe that's a bit of rust for Chad Johnson getting back into it because he had really played well heading into the Olympic break. It was really a mixed bag for the Bruins," said Bob Beers following the loss.
