Adam Jones: Missed Opportunities Buried The Bruins In Game 1
BOSTON (CBS) - Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Bruins and Canadiens was hard fought, passionate and down to the wire. In other words, exactly what you'd expect it to be when these two rivals meet up.
In a double overtime game the outcome can really go either way, and while Bruins fans expected a win, you've got to be encouraged by the effort and amount of scoring chances displayed by the B's.
98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones was on air following the game to provide recap and analysis, and he was joined by Dave Goucher and Bob Beers of the Bruins Radio Network.
For Goucher, he was pleased with what he saw, but if only the B's could capitalize we'd be sitting here up 1-0 not down 0-1.
"We said during the game the Bruins were all over Montreal and dominated this game for the most part. ... If you play like that most nights you're going to win. The fact tonight is they did not capitalize on a lot of their chances.
"Give Carey Price full marks -- he made some great saves. But the other chances the Bruins did not bury came back to cost them in this game. No question this is a missed opportunity for them tonight."
The Bruins had the advantage in shots (51 to 33), hits (56 to 45) and faceoffs (51 to 37). However, going 0-for-2 on the power play and missing countless chances in front of the net proved costly, especially when considering P.K Subban did the opposite and netted two of the Habs' three power play chances.
Bob Beers also weighed in:
"This is going to be a tough one to swallow because the Bruins had the win on their stick on a number of chances and weren't able to do it. By our count, Montreal had one scoring chance in the second period and it went in the net. When you've got scoring chances on the other end you've gotta bury it."
Beers gave credit where credit is due to Canadiens' netminder and Olympic gold medal winner Carey Price. However, the Bruins' inability to finish was a main reason for the defeat.
"You can put some blame [on individual players], but when you get that many chances -- Yeah, Carey Price made some good saves, but there were some ones maybe the Bruins would like to have back. Carey Price was excellent in this game, and he was the biggest difference."
