Technology Developed In Mass. Pinpoints Location Of Active Shooter
BOSTON (CBS) - A local security tech firm is installing new technology that pinpoints exactly where shots are fired within one second, inside schools and corporate buildings across the country.
Shooter Detection Systems in Rowley uses wall devices embedded with tiny microphones. "But we don't just use the listening. What we do is we also look. So we look for the flash of the weapon when it's fired," says CEO Christian Connors.
It sends a signal with a map to law enforcement, school administrators, or company managers. At the same time, the same information goes out in a phone text to employees, teachers, even college students within the system.
Connors says it may have had an impact in San Bernardino. "Every minute we can save in those situations will allow first responders to do their job, and help save people's lives inside the building."
The system is already installed in corporate buildings across the country, and 22 schools, including one in Methuen. Plans to put it in six more Massachusetts schools are underway.
