Acela Train Traveling 120 MPH Kills Man On Tracks In Hyde Park
HYDE PARK (CBS) - A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak Acela high-speed train near the Hyde Park station late Thursday night.
According to MBTA police, the train was traveling 120 miles per hour, which is the speed limit in that area.
At one point, Bengy Barlatier, who was with two other friends, unexpectedly jumped up and ran across the track. Police say he turned around and tried to cross back over when he was struck.
The conductor hit the brakes, but because the train was traveling so fast, it took more than a mile for it to stop.
When it did stop, passengers told WBZ-TV they were trapped on the train for two-and-a-half hours and that a so-called rescue train never showed up.
The train was on its way to South Station after leaving from Washington D.C.
