Abraham With Toucher & Rich: Sox Interviewing Their Second Choices
The Red Sox are still interviewing candidates for their vacant managerial position.
On Monday they met with New York Yankees bench coach Tony Pena and on Tuesday they are scheduled to interview special assistant to the San Diego Padres Brad Ausmus, but it's believed that John Farrell of the Toronto Blue Jays is still the top choice.
Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich to discuss the search for a new manager and the ALDS match up between the Yankees and Tigers.
"It wouldn't surprise me at all if at some point we just find out that the Red Sox and the Blue Jays have come to some kind of agreement and Farrell's going to manage the Red Sox and this is what the compensation is going to be but, it's not guaranteed. So the Red Sox are going through the process of figuring out who their second choice will be I guess and they've got a pretty good list of names right now of guys that they're talking to."
Is Ben Cherington just doing his due diligence and interviewing guys and if Larry Lucchino manages to work out a deal with Farrell then everything Cherington has done means nothing again?
"Cherington wants Farrell, they all want Farrell. So I don't think this is something where Larry wants one guy and Cherington wants the other. I think everyone in the organization would like to get Farrell in there."
They guys also went on to discuss the ALDS match up between the Yankees and Tigers and the scene at Yankee Stadium. During the last few playoff games seats have been empty and fans have been booing the performances of their team. What's going on with New York?
