Abraham On Toucher & Rich: Lester Was 'Really Impressive'
The Red Sox blew out the Cleveland Indians on Sunday as the offense came alive to score 14 runs. It also didn't hurt that Lon Lester went six innings striking out 12 and giving up Cleveland's only run.
Red Sox insider Peter Abraham spoke with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Johnston & Flynn, who were filling in for Toucher & Rich, about the team's great performance on Sunday, Carl Crawford's wrist, Ryan Lavarnway and David Ortiz.
Heading into Sunday's start Jon Lester was only 5-10 on the season and hadn't look like really looked like himself all season long, but in this game everything looked like it was coming together.
"It was the first time he's won a game since June 27th and I think it's the best he's probably pitched going back to May or April. It was really impressive, the 12 strikeouts and how he got to the 12 strikeouts mixing his pitches really well, getting a lot of bad swings from the Cleveland hitters. And maybe this is a sign, and it's been building for for a couple weeks now, but maybe this is a sign that Jon Lester is back to himself and will have a good rest of the season."
Carl Crawford was pulled from the game fifth inning due to the fact that his surgically repaired left wrist was sore. This new came down from manager Bobby Valentine after the game. How serious is this injury and will they just need to shut the outfielder down if it gets worse?
"He's been playing a lot for a guy who was on the DL all year long with a couple different injuries and they just figured it was a good opportunity to get him out of the game with a day off coming tomorrow, get him a little extra time off, and they thought it was fine. He said after the game he would have stayed in the game if it was a 2-1 game instead of a 12-1 game."
Plus, if the Sox don't plan on having Ryan Lavarnway's role be more than what it is now why don't they get rid of him? Also, why is David Ortiz talking about his contract again?
