A Small Soaking...

It's been about a week since our last solid dose of rain, we due for another and we'll see it that round tomorrow.  A compact low pressure system with good low level lift associated with overrunning will result in steady, some heavier rain for several hours.  Rain will be spreading in during the morning commute and won't taper off until mid-afternoon.  We are looking at .50-.75", not the 2-4" we saw last week but it will help.  The steady rain will end by the 3-4PM but lingering drizzle and mist will be around through the evening.  Temps will also struggle...this will be a cold rain...onshore winds coming in off the water will prevent temps from rising at all...steady in the mid to upper 40s.

After this storm departs, an area of high pressure will replace it...normally this is a great thing supplying sun, dry weather.  But this time around the high will slide to our north creating persistent onshore flow and locking in low level moisture...this means that low clouds will be present and tough to erode especially in Eastern MA on both Wednesday and Thursday.  Consequently, temps will mostly stay around 50 degrees close to the coast...but well inland, where some sun pokes through 60 will be attainable.

Friday and the weekend are really a tough call at this point.  First off, there is conflicting info...one much warmer than the other.  I'm siding with the colder result...here is why...later this week, blocking is expected to set-up downstream.  This should force cooler air south from Eastern Canada making it more difficult for a warmfront to make it through New England as the EURO is depicting.  The result would be showery and cool conditions Friday through at least midday Saturday before getting improvements for the end of the weekend.  I hope I'm wrong but we'll see.
