A Scorcher...

Well the heat was on today with records falling all over the place.  Both Boston and Worcester set new record highs of 87 degrees today beating out the old records of 84 degrees pretty easily.  In fact, that 87 in Boston is the warmest temp ever recorded this early in the month of April.  With all the heat, there was huge concern for the runners and racers in the Boston Marathon today...and eventhough the times weren't that strong, as of this typing, there were no serious injuries or worse from the heat.

A series of coldfront will be sweeping through the region over the next couple of days diffusing the heat and getting closer to normal temperature levels.  The first one arrives early tomorrow morning.  NW Winds will be advecting in cooler and much drier air for the day...with that said temps will still be quite warm in the 75-80 degree range.  With the breeze and the very dry air, the brush fire threat will be sky high tomorrow.  A second coldfront will slide through tomorrow night and this will effectively shift our wind into the NE bringing in chilly air for the middle of the week with highs near the coast in the 50s and inland temps in the 60s.  Unfortunately, while these fronts will be cooling us off, they won't be dropping any much needed rain on us.  Both frontal passages will be dry ones...exactly what we don't need.

There is hope for our drought...over the weekend and early next week, as a longwave trough enters the Eastern US it will be digging deep into the South, slowing down and cutting off this could result in an extended fetch of moist southerly flow and with a frontal boundary stalled in the area to focus that moisture we could be in for that soaking we desperately need.  Fingers crossed!
