A Messy Monday
Temperatures range from the 20s far north and west to the 30s in Boston to the 40s fro southeastern Massachusetts. The end result is a plethora of precipitation of an icy mix north and west of 495 and showers elsewhere. There are reports of freezing rain, sleet, and light snow (southern NH). Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for Western and Central Massachsuetts until 2pm and for southern NH until 8pm this evening. Highs will also include a wide variety from the upper 30s for southern NH to the lower 40s for Boston to near 50F for Cape Cod/Islands.
Scattered showers will continue tonight as a secondary area of low pressure rides along the frontal boundary. The rain will be heavy at times Tuesday morning before lightening in the afternoon. Highs will be milder in the lower to middle 50s.
Wednesday will start with a wintry mix and brighter skies will return in the afternoon. The exception will be the areas paralleling the coast. These areas will remain mostly cloudy with a few wrap-around showers. Highs will be in the middle 40s.
Thursday will be the one quiet day thdis week with highs in the upper 40s alolng with partly sunny skies.
Rain will move right back in as another storm system has its eye on New England from Thursday night into midday Friday. The cold front will travel offshore on Friday morning allowing for cold air to work its way back into New England. It will be chilly by Friday evening with wrap-around snowflakes possbile, especially for Northern New England.
This weekend is looking colder with highs in the 30s with a few snow showers in the forecast. This will bring smiles to many of your faces as we near the Christmas Holiday.
***The Winter Solstice is this Friday, December 21 at 6:12am. This will also be the shortest 'day' with 9 hours and 4 minutes of daylight. Then, more daylight is added as get closer and closer to Spring and Summer '13.
