9th OUI Charge For Brockton Man Who Ran Out Of Gas, Had Passenger Call 911
AVON (CBS) - A Brockton man who has already had his license revoked for life is facing drunk driving charges for the ninth time.
William Doten, 65, was arrested Thursday night in Avon after a passenger in his truck called police.
Police say Doten and his friend Joseph Doyle had been driving around for hours and ran out of gas. Doyle, who was also allegedly drunk, called 911 to report their truck had broken down and that they were lost.
Doyle was given a ride home by police officers.
Doten was charged with DUI, having an open container of alcohol in the car, and driving with a revoked license.
Doten is currently in the hospital, according to police. He's being held on $50,000 bail and is set to be arraigned on Monday.
Doten was found guilty on five previous drunk driving charges, enough for the state to issue a lifetime revocation of his license.
Police say since that revocation order, Doten has been arrested several times for driving with a revoked license.
Avon Police Sgt. John Buker says the fact that he's still on the road is extremely frustrating.
"You can put him in jail for a while, but are you going to put him in jail forever? What can you do?" he said.
